And Now Let Us Return to the Classics...

Barry mentioned that he was loving some "Real Music" that was given to him recently, I think it was Roy Ayers and some other Rhythm and Blues legend, sorry the degradation of my short term memory seems to be only over-shadowed by the collapse of my long-term memory.

In turn I said "Damn thats my school, son!", so here are some gems all fans of music should have just to remind themselves that unfortunately music will never be like this again.

First up are a couple tracks from Cymande a jazz, funk and soul band formed in London, but did tour the states with Rev. Al Green and reached no. 20 on the R&B charts in the early 70's.
Bra was sampled by De La Soul/Prince Paul on Three Feet High and Rising, in the good old days when you could sample what you wanted without fear of lawsuits.

Cymande - Bra MediaFire

The next is from Darondo, still performing in his native San Francisco and it's a little more down tempo, but one of the more heart wrenchingly beautiful soul tracks committed to tape.

I recently heard this at the end of an episode of Breaking Bad, so if you know the show it captures the mood of a meth cooking, science teacher with lung cancer who does what he does in order to provide for his family.
Kind of downer but the beauty of the track disperses the depression effortlessly, one of my favourite songs and I'll take that too the grave.

The last track is some Afrobeat, this track sparked my interest in the genre when I heard it in The Last King of Scotland, It sparked my interest in the genre and I've since been hoovering up any old Afrobeat tracks that will venture near me, but not quite like this guy Duncan Brooker.

An article on his record collecting scavenger hunts in north africa is here, give it a read it's rather inspiring and reminds me of Lapse and I's, old scavenger hunts in Durban, digging through dead peoples stuff for records and wondering how we could play our 78's.

Loose Change - Special edition: Sat on, not slept on

As far as music bloggers go, I think I'm not a very good one. See "real" music bloggers should get the latest and greatest tracks up on the blog before the artists themselves have even heard the final master copy... well that's the general vibe around it. I dont... making me seem like a selfish bastard that sits on tracks and releases for a good long while before sharing it with our dear readers... well this is one half true... who cares what the other half is.

This special edition of loose change catches up on all the great stuff Ive been sitting on... in case you've known better and thought Ive been sleeping on it.
What makes this an even more "special" special edition is that Lapse finally did his first post today... "OMG" "WTF"

My second favourite album of 2k9 gets some special remixes from Turbo records MVPs.

Zombie Nation - Shottieville (Proxy Remix) (Zshare) (Mediafire)
Zombie Nation - Worth It (Arveene & Misk Remix) (Zshare) (Mediafire)
Zombie Nation - Radio Controlled (Hey Today Remix) (Zshare) (Mediafire)

Two big names, I find hilarious for different reasons join forces to create something of monster... spawning some vicious remixes... heres the choice picks

Laidback Luke & Diplo - Hey! (Foamo Remix) (Zshare) (MediaFire)
Laidback Luke & Diplo - Hey! (AutoErotique Remix) (Zshare) (MediaFire)

Bonus:

New Foamo Collab with Lee Mortimer... got a lot of cross over appeal goin for it.

Lee Mortimer & Foamo - Its Goin Down (Zshare) (MediaFire)

The second single from my favorite album this year... and with some very hearty remixes to boot. (sue me now, but puns will make a comeback)

MSTRKRFT feat. John Legend - Heartbreaker (Laidback Luke remix) (Zshare) (MediaFire)
MSTRKRFT feat. John Legend - Heartbreaker (Wolfgang Gartner remix) (Zshare) (MediaFire)

Bonus:
Even though they were in the process of moving their studio, not having any of their gear and proclaiming this a remix they were not at all happy with... I think the Al and Jesse did a pretty dam good job fixing this one...

Keri Hilson feat. Lil Wayne - Turnin me on (MSTRKRFT remix) (Zshare)
(MediaFire)

Not sure what to write about this except; D.I.M. is crazy... this track is insane, but kinda renews my hope in techno... if you can even call it that?

D.I.M. & Tai - Lyposuct (Zshare) (MediaFire)

Last but not least... some Wu Tang... remember them? Apparently they have a line of lego products coming out soon... umm anyways...
We should all already have the brilliant remix Yuksek did for UGods new album... but definately not this lost Felix Cartal remix... Its rare and pretty good... good way to end this special edition of loose change... so dont spend it all at once.

U-God - Hips (Felix Cartal Remix) (Zshare) (MediaFire)

Since you've made it reading this far, a quick reminder that Belushi and ShuffleShame are playing tomorrow night at the Milner Park Hotel in Braamfontein... also known as Kitcheners Carvery... peep the details.

Ain't it Cool

So one of my bestest things about SA, is that we are very backwater, we catch onto things late and we tend to only do things, if they fit into our boxes of "cool"
. Everyone has to be inside a box, emo, alt, hipster, raver, jock, rapper...blahblahblah. Gone are the days where you can listen to more than one type of music, maybe its a youth thing, maybe when you get older you learn to appreciate more and realise that whoa I understand what the person is trying to get thourgh with this music..or maybe not. At the moment U have a large amout of respect for anyone who steps onto the stage and preforms or dj's or raps, its fucken scary. So please kids get over yourselves and try be more understanding. My friend Malope Makola and his friends seem to think the same thing....well about Hip Hop at least, but instead of moan about it they instead decided to shot a short docci abou how they felt. It was shot with a budget of "Seven Rand" so dont expect a master pic, but I will tell you one thing the contents of this little project is amazing. After watching this we plan to do a range of docci's on all the sub-cultures in and around Jozi..

I'm doing a post.....

OK guys so in the hood they call me "lil Ghost Poster", my shit's so ill and so underground only real G, G, G Mail unit heads read it....Ok, Ok enough Diggy Dawg-ness, here it is.

Mr Vega is from Brooklyn, Mr. Vega is three people namely his wife, child and himself, apparently his kid did the bassline on "Metal Sparks" at only a few months old....Ok i'm talking shit again.

Anyway his stuff is bangin Indie/Electro House straight outta NYC!

And lucky for us he's decided to give away his Debut Album "Live Dance Then Die" for Gratis (I think that means free...)

My Friends are Electric, but thanks for asking Gary.

As an alternative to shilling out 100clams to see a Dj you've never heard of, Jhb's and Cpt's greatest dj's will be throwing a party this saturday at Kitcheners Carvery.

It'll cost you at the most 20clams, that leaves you a spare 80clams to get CRUNK!

A track I'll definately be playing on the night is:

Let Dead Dogs Lie.

So I've been mobile and out of my coma for almost 2 weeks now,and life 'was' dandy.

Then I heard about my old dj pal VEREVÜLFF wasn't having such a fair time of it on old planet earth, the poor bastard took silver bullet to his nut whilst participating in a canned hunt in Romania, he said he needed some spare euros to buy a Nintendo Wii.

You Tool! You could steal one and the owner probably wouldn't notice it was gone until the next Mario Bros. game came out, Super Mario Bros: Mario Learns to Make Carcinogenic Crumpets.
Could this game be that catalyst? be the trigger that leads to a physical and emotional uplift for the player, ushering in a positive new era for their entire life outlook? An extremely powerful piece?

Sorry I got distracted, the internet will do that.

Oh yeah VERREVÜLFF (hope I spelt that right mate, i could never remember how), hope your not too dead to read this.

I've always thought that my mate deserved some kind of prize for being able to walk the knife edge between irony of the highest genius and deep, deep twattery. I've read the birthday card you sent me and I'm still unsure where you fall?

Yup, there he went, he's passed on now, he's dead.
Dead as a dog in a pit.

I didn't kill him if thats what you were thinking, I mean I could've.
I just didn't have a motive.

These ones are for you boy...fetch!

I'll be playing in Johannesburg this weekend in tribute to my dead mate VEREVÜLFF this saturday check back later this week for further details on FatChineseBoi.

Don't forget to download Duck Sauce, currently situated just under your chin. Just keep looking you'll find it.

Discothequé Mix 001 - Lapse & Belushi

In order to promote The Assembly's "Discothequé" nights, the good people that think of friday beyond saturday and before thursday, had the idea to promote the evenings, it's dj's and it's kaleidoscopic sound through a series of mixes and here is 001 of 999.
Obviously reaching the milestone of 999 in the mix series is reliant on whether music is not outlawed and banned on February 12th 2012, which was predicted by the ancient Egyptians, the more recent Aztecs, Nostradamus and John Edward McGee.

The mix is a light affair of Pop, Electro, Electro-Pop, Pop-Pop/Electro, and Acid Jazz, mixed by Lapse and Belushi.

To stay in touch with the events of the "Discothequé" join the Facebook Group

Now this is cool...

On the quest for cool? Look no further, for this video is the be all and end all of cool...

He-Man the Bollywood Spectacular!

Why so sad? We still got Prince!

So my family were drawing straws to see who would be the first too tell me old "wrinkle proof" had passed on, after a little too much Demerol. To be honest they were probably a little to excited too tell me, you sick bastards.

So as I woke from my coma the Jackson begged to slip into one, oh the irony.

My first thought was maybe his spirit has been passed on to me, and my second thought was why couldn't I get Prince's spirit?

My Happy Song

So I'm a little sad at the mo, but aren't we all? We make choices for the right reasons, most of the time. Well when in my sadness I usually fall back on music, like most people do, This song is one of my favorites off of MSTRKRFT's "Fist of God" album and whenever I'm sad I just think God Jesse must have hurt real bad to have written this song. So when I listen too it, I realise my problems aren't so big and that it could be worse.
