Loose Change - Special edition: Sat on, not slept on

As far as music bloggers go, I think I'm not a very good one. See "real" music bloggers should get the latest and greatest tracks up on the blog before the artists themselves have even heard the final master copy... well that's the general vibe around it. I dont... making me seem like a selfish bastard that sits on tracks and releases for a good long while before sharing it with our dear readers... well this is one half true... who cares what the other half is.

This special edition of loose change catches up on all the great stuff Ive been sitting on... in case you've known better and thought Ive been sleeping on it.
What makes this an even more "special" special edition is that Lapse finally did his first post today... "OMG" "WTF"

My second favourite album of 2k9 gets some special remixes from Turbo records MVPs.

Zombie Nation - Shottieville (Proxy Remix) (Zshare) (Mediafire)
Zombie Nation - Worth It (Arveene & Misk Remix) (Zshare) (Mediafire)
Zombie Nation - Radio Controlled (Hey Today Remix) (Zshare) (Mediafire)

Two big names, I find hilarious for different reasons join forces to create something of monster... spawning some vicious remixes... heres the choice picks

Laidback Luke & Diplo - Hey! (Foamo Remix) (Zshare) (MediaFire)
Laidback Luke & Diplo - Hey! (AutoErotique Remix) (Zshare) (MediaFire)

Bonus:

New Foamo Collab with Lee Mortimer... got a lot of cross over appeal goin for it.

Lee Mortimer & Foamo - Its Goin Down (Zshare) (MediaFire)

The second single from my favorite album this year... and with some very hearty remixes to boot. (sue me now, but puns will make a comeback)

MSTRKRFT feat. John Legend - Heartbreaker (Laidback Luke remix) (Zshare) (MediaFire)
MSTRKRFT feat. John Legend - Heartbreaker (Wolfgang Gartner remix) (Zshare) (MediaFire)

Bonus:
Even though they were in the process of moving their studio, not having any of their gear and proclaiming this a remix they were not at all happy with... I think the Al and Jesse did a pretty dam good job fixing this one...

Keri Hilson feat. Lil Wayne - Turnin me on (MSTRKRFT remix) (Zshare)
(MediaFire)

Not sure what to write about this except; D.I.M. is crazy... this track is insane, but kinda renews my hope in techno... if you can even call it that?

D.I.M. & Tai - Lyposuct (Zshare) (MediaFire)

Last but not least... some Wu Tang... remember them? Apparently they have a line of lego products coming out soon... umm anyways...
We should all already have the brilliant remix Yuksek did for UGods new album... but definately not this lost Felix Cartal remix... Its rare and pretty good... good way to end this special edition of loose change... so dont spend it all at once.

U-God - Hips (Felix Cartal Remix) (Zshare) (MediaFire)

Since you've made it reading this far, a quick reminder that Belushi and ShuffleShame are playing tomorrow night at the Milner Park Hotel in Braamfontein... also known as Kitcheners Carvery... peep the details.

From small time racket to big time Cartal.

Felix Cartal. What a cool name and ironically his story so closely resembles any one of your favouritest mafia films its almost uncanny. Ya'll know how it goes, talented small time hustler gets noticed by the "Family's" high ups, next thing ya know he's welcomed into the "Family" and quickly works his way up the ranks...

Felix's story is just that. Small time talented producer racketeers some really good tracks... these tracks reach the ears of
JFK, part of the undocumented family, MSTRKRFT division. JFK champions his tracks... Felix is welcomed into the undocumented family... Felix works really hard to craft some of the finest mind erasing dance floor weapons in the last blog decade. Not only that he tours extensively playing along side heavy hitters MSTRKRFT, LA Riots, Bloody Beetroots, Lazaro Casanova and Steve Aoki to name but a few.

That's where the analogy and play on his name ends, because there are no tragic endings here. Whats next for Felix Cartal? Not only has he captured our hearts and playlists here at FatChineseBoi but the world over. In between dropping hot tracks, touring the world and finishing College... Felix is also an active member on
MSTRKRFT's forum, which he has now taken one step further by launching FelixCartal.com. His nobel aim with his site is to share his knowledge and experience with other small time up n coming hustlers... err producers, as well as keep eager fans upto date on all things Felix.

Im really into the concept... like my favourite videos at the moment (yes even over top gear) are Future Music magazine's "
in the studio" series. Felix takes this a step further and offers his own time to this cause.

I learned that his
studio setup is remarkably humble and low end, yet his sound is so hugely pro its almost unbelievable. I guess proving, its not the tools that make a great carpenter.

More interestingly Felix is ready to drop a brand new
EP in about 5 weeks or so, Entitled Skeleton. Heres the tracklist:
A1. Skeleton
A2. Salty Lake
B1. Montreal Dreams
B2. Redheads

To celebrate the Launch of Felix's
site and the prospect of his upcoming EP, here's a holster full of Mr. Cartal's tracks featuring my favourite remix of Evil Nine...

Felix Cartal - Skeleton

From Monument To Masses - Beyond God To Elvis (Felix Cartal Remix)

Evil Nine - They live (Felix Cartal Remix) (so good)

MSTRKRFT - Bounce (Felix Cartal Remix)

If you like Mafia films or what you hear, head on over to Felix's
site, Myspace,
Facebook or forum to show him some love.
You can also hustle yourselves more of his work over at
beatport, and also see what he's digging.

Evil Two Thousand and Nine

Last year saw a quite a few album releases from our favourite artists... Some definately hit and miss, some arguably very miss and some completely amazing. I'll save you the in depth analysis... Hardly any were anywhere near as brilliant as Evil Nine's spectacular "They Live!". Probably the least known release of 2k8 around here outta the lot, but in my opinion the most relevant, especially for forging a path of progression in 2k9 and beyond. You see Kids there is a very fine line experimental artists walk. A line between shear ground breaking brilliance and utterly miserably failure. Evil Nine takes a giant stride safely onto the side of ground breaking brilliance. Two modest lads, Tom and Pat, hailing from the UK's Brighton are the evil geniuses behind this sound. Their album "They Live!" features an interesting blend of artists from a sprall of different genres. Artists like Electro hero AutoKratz, underground rap legends El-P and Beans to thrash pin up Emily Breeze... Even the dancehall ragga rebel Toastie Taylor and many more.

By impregnating tired old memes like vintage horror and zombies with their envigorating amalgamation of powerful electro, rap and punk... An undead monster of truly genre barrier destroying power is born. Hopefully this is a glimpse of things to come in 2k9 and beyond, I for one am truly relieved that future of music is safe... in an awkard undead flesh eating kind of way. What we have for you here are two absolute pearlers from the album demostrating their diversity under one infecious style. The first track here sounds like it could be the undead corpse of DFA1979, re-animated by Danzig of the Misfits... yet completely unique in its own right. The second track here is slightly gentler (as if!)...

Evil Nine feat. Emily Breeze - Twist The Knife

Evil Nine feat. David Autokratz - Wait

Then there was this single, crooked, featuring underground rapper Aesop Rock. Heres the video... Turn it up and love it.

And if you thought that was it, you are sadly mistaken... Because of course there are the remixes! oh yes! This one is from the amazing Alex Metric, which is of their track All the cash feat. El-P. This track was featured in our ShuffleShame mix a while ago and it is just unbelievable! The next one here, is of the vocoded Anthem and flag track of the album, They Live! This time the remix is by the fiendishly talented rising star Felix Cartal. This remix is so good I literally listen to it everyday. I plan on doing a whole write up on Felix, so keep an eye out for that!

Evil Nine feat EL P - All The Cash (Alex Metric Remix)

Evil Nine - They Live! (Felix Cartal Remix)

If all this isn't convincing enough that Evil Nine is more than a short lived gimmick... Bare in mind their first Ep dropped in 2000 followed by their first album "You Can Be Special Too" in 2004. Just pop their name into google to see how much acclaim these humble guys are gathering. If you needed very little convincing click on over to
Amazon to buy this Album or over to Beatport to snag the remixes and their earlier work. Its brilliant. Trust me on this!
